Lazarus Found

Tonight we began our mission with a few experienced missionaries who were well equipped with hearts afire for the Lord. We met people who stopped and wondered why we asked them, “Are you Catholic?” We talked about tonight being Reconciliation Monday in the Archdiocese of New York. We reminded people of the beauty of reconciliation with our loving Father. The sacrament of Reconciliation polishes our hearts and transforms our being. We, by chance, remeet many of the passersby who we invited to St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral for the sacrament of Reconciliation. We saw in these people a transformation-a gleam in the eyes, a smile to light up the shadows of the night – joy – – grace!

In today’s Gospel from John we hear about Jesus and Lazarus.  The great crowd was seeking Lazarus who by a miracle of Jesus was raised from the dead. The name Lazarus is derived from the Hebrew אלעזר, Elʿāzār (Eleazar) meaning “God has helped”. Tonight we found Lazarus – over and over again!

Laudetur Jesus Christus.
